Before becoming an acupuncturist, Nana Efrem M.S. L.Ac was a practicing Obstetrics/Gynecologist. She has nearly 30 years of combined medical and acupuncture experience. Over the years, Nana has successfully treated hundreds of patients suffering from infertility and reproductive issues.

Acupuncture For Infertility

Studies have shown that men and women who use the methods of traditional Chinese medicine are more likely to conceive than those who treat infertility by other means. Traditional Chinese medicine can be used successfully to reduce exposure to toxins and minimize potential side effects while working to promote conception.

Afraid of Needles? Try Cold Laser Therapy, No-Needle Acupuncture

While traditional Chinese medicine has been shown to be effective in the treatment of various infertility issues, laser acupuncture or cold laser therapy has been shown to have an even higher rate of success. A 2008 study reported in Fertility & Sterility magazine found that “implantation rates were significantly improved with laser acupuncture” when patients are treated with laser acupuncture before and after embryo transfer.

Cold laser acupuncture works by stimulating specific acupuncture points by using light energy instead of needles. This mode of treatment has been demonstrated to be more effective, is painless (so there isn’t an added stress of needling pain), and allows the practitioner to pick the most effective acupuncture points (some of which many practitioners shy away from due to the higher rate of pain associated with said acupuncture points). Although cold laser acupuncture has been around for decades, it is still a relatively unique method of treatment. Nana’s is one of the few practices dedicated to using cold laser acupuncture to treat infertility and other various reproductive system conditions. As a result, Nana has seen incredible success with cold laser therapy for infertility with many of her past patients returning to the office as parents with children.

Which Fertility Issues Can Be Treated?

The efficacy of traditional Eastern medicine for the treatment of both male and female infertility is mentioned in early Eastern literature. Acupuncture is effective in the treatment of hundreds of diseases related to reproduction. It can treat amenorrhea, endometriosis, elevated FSH, irregular menstrual cycle, immunological factors, ovarian cysts, painful menstruation, male infertility, menopause, PMS, IUI support, IVF support and other conditions related to the male and female reproductive systems.
