Menopause describes the permanent end of a woman’s menstrual periods. It happens naturally, but can also be caused by surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. The time leading up to menopause is known as “menopausal transition,” and involves hormonal changes that take place over few years. If a woman hasn’t had a period in the span of a year, she is considered menopausal.
Symptoms: Menopause’s most common symptoms are night sweats, hot flashes, and vaginal dryness. Other symptoms may include trouble remembering and reasoning, changes in mood, anxiety, depression, tiredness, and stiff/painful joints.
